Redmond Firefighters Association supports the Annexation of Redmond Fire and Rescue
Q: What is annexation?
A: If passed, ambulance and fire services would be provided by Rural Fire District #1 instead of the City of Redmond.
Q: Would the annexation increase my taxes?
A: No. There will be no increase in property taxes for residents of the City of Redmond or Rural Fire District #1.
Q: Why propose an annexation?
A: It would preserve current levels of ambulance and fire response by stabilizing funding.
Q: What happens to the fire stations, fire engines and ambulances?
A: The fire stations, fire engines and ambulances would all remain the same.
Q: How would the annexation affect the current career and volunteer firefighters?
A: The current career and volunteers would remain the same.
Q: Why vote on this?
A: Only voters can approve a change in a tax base. If the measure is approved, the City of Redmond would reduce its current tax base of $6.16 to $4.41. The remaining $1.75 would go to Rural Fire District #1 to provide ambulance and fire services. A charter amendment would also make the tax reduction permanent.
Q: Who would be the governing body of the fire department?
A: The fire department would be governed by a five-person board elected by the voters within Redmond and Rural Fire District #1.
Q: What happens if the annexation measure is not approved?
A: If the measure is not approved, the City of Redmond and Rural Fire District #1 would re-negotiate the current intergovernmental agreement to dissolve the relationship.
